Instead of asking for one-time contributions of food, our volunteers (Neighborhood Coordinators) enlist their neighbors to become long-term Food Donors.
What we do
Neighbors give a bag of food every two months. It’s incredibly easy because we supply the bag, and we pick up the food! This provides the Food Bank of East Alabama with a steady, year-round supply of food, and provides Donors with the ongoing satisfaction of making a real difference. People also get to know their neighbors, which builds a powerful sense of community. Every one wins!
What’s the result?
Our system really works! In Southern Oregon’s Jackson County, where the program originated, they currently bring in about 300,000 lbs of food a year . . . one bag at a time!
We have a Food Project right here in East Central Alabama. The Food Project of East Alabama is a grassroots group. That means it depends entirely on people like you. Whether you donate food, collect it or help out in some other way, you are what makes this program work. FBEA needs you!
